Our History

Hartwell Lodge #101, chartered in Oxford, Alabama, in 1849, holds a rich and layered history symbolized by its unique cornerstone. This cornerstone features two distinct facings, marking the years 1891 and 1949. A significant event occurred in 1949 when the cornerstone was opened to place a time capsule inside before being resealed. This capsule is scheduled to be opened again on February 6, 2049, preserving a piece of the lodge's heritage for a future generation. Further marking its progress, the lodge moved into it’s current building in the 1970s, which was celebrated at the time as a "state of the art" facility for Masonic lodges within Alabama.
